Fear vs Food

Hi Friends!

We made it through the first month of 2021!

At the start of each year, month, or week we always tell ourselves, we are starting this out strong, am I right? We say things like “let’s attack this Monday,” “this year is my year,” or “let’s start this month off right.” Then there are big phases of our lives that strike the same attitude: new jobs, promotions, life events, moving to a new city, and/or joining a new team.

We live in a constant state of choices. I didn’t even mention the ones we constantly make around food! There’s research out there that states we make on average a couple hundred food choices per day. Holy guacamole!

We are surrounded by messages about foods, social norms, and what society tells us we should be eating. We’re getting hit from all sides! This can make us second guess ourselves, override our intuition, make us pick foods we don’t even like, or worse, spark fear.

Who has ever:

-Wanted to change their diet but felt nervous to actually pull the trigger?

-Fear someone will judge their meal or food choices?

-Fear you will “fail” the diet?

-You choose comfort food because it makes you feel “safe”

-Changing “your ways” suddenly feels like “too much”

All of this then sends you in a downward spiral of negative self-talk.

Well it’s the start of a new month and we’re going to kick this one off with “feel-good” choices! I want you to feel good about the choices you make regarding food! February is all about LOVE and if we’re going to listen to society, I’d rather listen to those who say “LOVE YOURSELF”.

Let’s let go of the “story” we tell ourselves when we get fearful. That story that tells us we suck because we didn’t stick to our food rules or didn’t exercise for 3 hours to burn it off or that we’re a failure because we ate dessert first. I want you to get clear about what YOU want. Do you want to have a better relationship with food? Do you want to feel satisfied when eating your meals? Feel confident in stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new? To do this, you will need to review the attitudes and behaviors you routinely do.

For the month of February, try one new thing each week. AHHHHH, ring the alarm of fear!

Here are some ideas to jump start:

-Make breakfast 3 times in the first week

-Buy yourself some chocolate on Valentine’s (remember, love yourself) in the second week

-Schedule in lunch 3 times in the third week

-Eat something green at least 4 times in the last week
