Apt Livin’
Top 10 Kitchen Items
Moving away to college? Moving into your first apartment? Moving into a new home? Moving on from intensive outpatient treatment? Transitioning from inpatient care to intensive outpatient care? Wanting to become more independent in your own place? Shoot, you already live in an apartment and don’t know what to buy?
Here are the top 10 kitchen items that will help create the next cooking session:
10: Sheet Pans
So much can be made on the sheet pan. You can lay some parchment paper down to roast vegetables. Don’t have a grill? No problem- you can broil steak in the oven. Or if you’re like me, you just throw all the items on the pan and put it in the oven, 20-30 mins later- done.
I’m cheap so I buy the cheap stuff at the grocery store but there are a variety of pans to get, pick what is best for you!
9: Tupperware
Yep, grandma’s favorite household item. You can buy these in small, medium, large sizes, bowls, portioned plates, meal prep style, salad style, and all the styles.
If you live on the go such as an athlete does- these are a go too. Prepare meals in advance to allocate throughout the week. Cook too much one night, throw it in for left overs tomorrow! Most are dish washer safe. Use and reuse.
8: Crock Pot
Probably fall’s most used item. You can do all the things with a crock pot.
Place the items in, set the timer, go to work, come home, oh look dinner is
ready!
Good for making hot apple cider as well.
7: Plates and Bowls
Easy enough, you have to have a place to put your food! Get you a little set that comes with 4 bowls, 4 plates, and 4 small plates and done. Be sure to check to see if they’re dishwasher safe!
6: Spatula and Spoons
Alright, now there is a VARIETY to choose from. Plastic, metal, rubber, wooden and so on. In my experience, purchase rubber with wooden handles. Metal can burn you or slowly damage the pots/pans. Rubber is easy to clean and the handles won’t melt or catch a blaze.
5: Cutting Boards
Another one that has more than infinity to choose from. Some say choose plastic, some say choose wood, I say: what does your budget say? You need cheap-ish but get the job done? Plastic, easy. Feeling spendy? A nice wooden board will last if you follow the “care” instructions.
4: Blender
Everyone should have one of these bad boys. Summer time slushie, post work out smoothie, easy to make salsa, dips, soups, etc.
Get one that actually has some power behind it.
3: Fork, Spoon, and Knife Set
You have to have something to eat your meals with, silly! Stainless steel will do and the best part, you can easily get a set while grocery shopping. Nothing too fancy if you’re ballin’ on a budget!
2: Pots and Pans
These will need a small investment. It took me a while to finally accept that but I was tired of burning eggs or having my food stick to the pan. Uneven cooking is a real drag and doesn’t give you confidence in your cooking skills if you’re trying to teach yourself!
1: Coffee Maker
You’re probably thinking how is this ranked numero uno?! The first thing
majority of people do in the AM is make coffee! You can go fancy and have your own espresso machine or settle with Mr. Coffee.
But first, coffee.
This list is in no order of importance. All of these are essential household
items to make your kitchen and go to place for creation!
