For the past two years I have read a book each month. Some I have bought, some I have given away, and some borrowed. There are some many books to read sometimes I don’t know where to start. I have my go-to’s: inspiring female, boss babes, sports, autobiographies, and self-help. I’ll thrown in a faith based every now and then.
The future is female, right?! If you’d like to get started on some light-hearted easy to read books, here’s a little list to start with. Grab some coffee or wine.
Funny & Inspiring Women
The look on Issa’s face just makes me chuckle- I’ve made that look far too many times to count. I am awkward so to find read to the Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl was a must. This funny lady created her career through her misadventures and they are relatable and hilarious. Some shit you just can’t make up. I know you have caught yourself saying that out loud to yourself before, we all have. Need to laugh and go down memory lane on your own misadventures, this is a good one.
Boldness but a nobody. Scrappy little nobody wasn’t exactly what I would have imagined reading her life thus far. That’s what I love about these books, sometimes you grab a book and think, I wonder how they made it or the opposite, I could never relate. Anna is scrappy and well it be like that sometimes, oh and there’s plenty of dry humor. You’re pitch to things may not always be perfect but you just have to be scrappy to get there.
Why not me? Mindy is hilarious so her story was just that. I loved how she told her story. This is a follow up book to her first one– I haven’t read that but I loved the question, why not me? Why not us, right? Why can’t our dreams come true?
More wine, always. We’re going to need more wine by GU is a look into a life that I could relate to. I loved her openness and conversations she brought to the table. She is a strong woman and I admire her willingness to learn, support, and be bold. She speaks about growing up in a small town, pursuing her dreams and finding love. Plus they call her Nikki- we’re practically friends.
#GirlBoss is what all the boss ladies need to create their own business from their willingness to create something out of someone’s trash, and create their own treasure. She has an attitude about her and her work ethic, I like it.
Overnight Success is a true beauty girl’s book. All things make up and hard work. To be honest, I loved the cover and it was under $10 at Barnes and Noble so I bought. It was an easy read that left me motivated. She now has a second book out and I can’t wait to read it! PS Success doesn’t happen overnight. *Wink Wink*
Girl, Wash you face was it. She was real, she was hilarious, she was vulnerable and the world felt it. I actually read that book before her business blew up in success. I actually sent it to my friend to read too. It is awesome! Girl, Stop Apologizing was good but didn’t hit my heart like Girl, wash your face. I think it’s because I follow her so closely now, my wow factor is gone, just growing in love with how she handles her biz. I’m here for it if she decides to write a book on starting a business talking about Girl, do the damn thing. PS on this one, I did just sign up for my first “Next 90 days” so let’s see if I can do it.
A true warrior. I am not the kind of reader that reads a book in a day or weekend. I give myself a month to finish books except this book, I am Malala. I read this book in one sitting. She changed a country because she wanted to be an educated woman. Oh and she was shot in the face for it, and lived. She is a true symbol of inspiration.
This is clearly full of hard working women that made me laugh and inspire me with their stories. I always say I am going to write a book about my life and the dumb shit that happens, we all have stories inside of us and well the best part is we get to write them! Also, don’t worry by library is full of nutrition, self-help and sports books. I am a simple reader. Any recommendations, please comment!
ROAM to a new book.
